Wanderings in Paris is curated by Kitty Callaghan, Australian photographer and multi-media artist. Kitty has meticulously curated a visual journey that beckons you look behind the curtain through her artistic lens. Capturing the essence of Paris known only to those who call it home, we reveal the secret gems that elude the typical tourist's eye. From cafes, bookshops, vintage markets and late-night jaunts, Kitty paints a picture of local charm, culture and character beyond the ordinary.
This is your key to open the door of one of the most famous cities in the world.
DRINK
Viviant~43 R. des Petites Écuries I am a big fan of an afternoon drink. The wine selection is as wonderful as this the music.
Restaurant LouLou~107 Rue de Rivoli You can’t beat the location for a martini after a big day seeing the galleries of Paris.
MEET
Dreamin' Man ~ 140 Rue Amelot Usually on a Sunday for coffee or tea.
The Broken Arm ~ 12 Rue Perrée Always good for that much needed inspiration hit
OFR ~ 12 Rue Perrée One of my all time favourite independent bookshops in the city with a curation of photography, art design and more.
Vintage Street Markets
The neighbourhood changes each week so it always feels new and exciting. This is where I usually make a small purchase.
I always enjoy buying second-hand over new. I love the idea that the objects and clothes have had a life before I’ve come across them. My current favourite thing to purchase is vintage jewellery – I’m building a collection of art deco clip-on earrings
EAT
It can feel overwhelming with the amount of restaurants in Paris so for that reason I love to get to the many food markets and cook at home too.
Le Rigmarole~ 10 Rue du Grand Prieuré Go for the pizza! Only open from time to time – you must be quick!
Urfa Durum ~ 58 Rue du Faubourg Saint-Denis This has to be the best spot for lunch in the 10th. They serve Kurdish wraps made with dough baked in front of you. So simple, so fresh, so delicious.
Breizh Café~ Le Marais When all your crave is a crepe... they also serve my favourite tea, Mariage Frères.
SLEEP
My favourite neighbourhoods to stay in are the 11th and 10th.
Specifically the Fashion Big Bang 1997 collection. All about all the incredible things that happened in fashion and culture in that year. They also offer a very well curated playlist with songs from that year that will transport you to that time.
STREAM
Lately I am more of a podcaster over film and TV. Some of my favourite podcasts are Apology with Jesse Pearson, Ruthie’s Table, City Arts and Lectures, Getty Art + Ideas, Broken Record and Les Rendez-vous littéraires by Chanel.
