Tarantismo is a moving procession through White Bay Power Station — a performance of bodies, sound, and fabric. Inspired by the Tarantella, a traditional Southern Italian dance said to cure the body through rhythm, it unfolds through dancers, musicians, and community participants who guide audiences through the space.

As part of the Live at the MCA series, join a moonlit celebration of Sham El-Neseem — an ancient Egyptian festival cherished across religions and backgrounds as a time of renewal and togetherness. Enjoy performances by Egyptian-Australian artists including singer-songwriter Mariam Sawires and hip-hop artist Kid Pharaoh, alongside traditional henna tattooing, palm weaving, and Egyptian food and drinks on the Terrace.

FORAGE | AMULET MAKING

Join artist Marian Abboud for a series of hands-on workshops exploring Lebanese mourning and protection rituals through the art of amulet-making. Using materials rich in cultural significance such as turquoise, quartz, amber, oud, frankincense, spices, and incense. Learn the art of amulet making and reflect on the traditions that bind families across generations and geographies.

INSPIRE | SANDRA MONTERROSO

Sandra Monterroso is a multidisciplinary Q'eqchi' Mayan artist working across sculpture, video, performance, and textiles. Drawing on Indigenous knowledge, she uses natural pigments and organic materials alongside Mayan spirituality and textile traditions to create works that seek to heal colonial wounds and preserve Indigenous ways of knowing.

NOURISH | ANDINA PERUVIAN CUISINE

On three special occasions throughout the Biennale, Argentinian artist Gabriele Chaile’s extraordinary adobe oven rolls outside White Bay Power Station. In an intra–Latin American collaboration with Sydney’s Andina Peruvian Cuisine, it becomes a warm, nourishing ritual to savour before entering the exhibition.

LISTEN | IN CONVERSATION WITH MONICA RANI RUDHAR

Based on Gadigal land, Rani Rudhar works across sculpture, video, and performance to restore familial histories, traditions, and rituals disrupted by migration and displacement. Born to Indian and Romanian migrant parents, she draws on her family history to reclaim narratives of relationship, resistance, and ritual, inviting audiences to engage with memory, heritage, and identity.
