Longevity Of Your Garments

Our pieces are a testament to artisanal craftsmanship—imbued with the beauty of handwork, dedicated to preserving specialised skills, and designed to be cherished for years to come. With longevity at the heart of every creation, the following care steps will help ensure that your Lucy Folk garments remain treasured companions.

Organic Cotton

Organic cotton is a lightweight, breathable fabric that’s perfect for travel and everyday wear. Sourced from India, the organic cotton we use supports sustainable farming practices, encouraging longevity of ancestral properties and conserving soil integrity. Soft to the touch and gentle on the skin, it’s an ideal choice for warm climates and layering.

Due to the variation in our hand finishes, please refer to the care label of your piece for garment-specific laundering instructions. Where hand washing is possible, we recommend washing in cold water (below 30°C) using a mild, natural detergent. After washing, gently reshape the garment and lay it flat to dry in the shade to maintain colour vibrancy. Never tumble dry; heat can damage the fibres and delicate embellishments on your piece. If pressing is necessary, use a cool iron on the reverse side with a press cloth to protect the fabric. We always recommend hanging your pieces between travel. These will sit best in a cool, dry place with protection from the elements.

Silk

Silk is a natural fibre celebrated for its luxurious feel and versatility, making it perfect for trans-seasonal wear. Known for its lightweight, breathable properties, silk provides comfort in both warm and cool weather. Organic variations in texture, known as slubs, will be present in the raw silk that we use in our garments, making each piece truly one of a kind.

Specialised finishes and applications on our pieces call for dry cleaning to ensure preservation of the delicate hand feel and lustre. To maintain its original appearance and colour, avoid prolonged sunlight exposure. For creasing, we recommend a gentle steam or cool, gentle iron on the reverse side using a press cloth. For long-term storage, use a breathable garment bag to protect against the elements, and ensure it is stored in a cool, dry place.

Towelling

Our 100% cotton towelling fabric is handcrafted by a women-led atelier in Morocco, celebrated for its absorbency, softness, and breathability. Each piece is thoughtfully made, reflecting a dedication to both craftsmanship and comfort.

To ensure the longevity of your towelling garments, always hand wash in cold water (below 30°C) using a mild, natural detergent to protect the fibres. Lay flat to dry in the shade, as direct sunlight can cause colour fading. Due to the structure of the fabric, towelling pieces can naturally develop small pulls over time—carefully trim loose threads to keep the fabric looking fresh. Avoid wringing or twisting to prevent stretching and to maintain the fabric’s original shape.

Knitwear

Delicately hand-linked by a family-run atelier in Italy, Lucy Folk knitwear is crafted from a luxurious blend of Organic Extra Fine Merino Wool and Baby Alpaca. Reflecting timeless craftsmanship and understated luxury, it requires gentle care to maintain its integrity.

Always handle with care, as the intricate knit is sensitive to snagging and abrasion. Professional dry cleaning is recommended to help maintain the hand feel of the natural fibres. Store your knitwear folded rather than hung to prevent stretching, and keep it in a cool, dry place. If pilling occurs, use a premium electric pilling tool with light pressure, as too much force can cause permanent damage to the structure of your knit. Avoid prolonged contact with uneven surfaces and accessories to preserve the knit’s delicate texture.

Care Considerations

Washing & Detergent

Always refer to the individual garment care instructions. Where washing is permitted, we recommend using gentle, eco-friendly detergents to help preserve the fabric's integrity while minimising environmental impact.
