In the heart of the ancient Red City, where the sun kisses the earth in a fiery embrace, a ring of wonder was born – The Medina Ring. A ring enchanted by the bustling energy of the city's souks, the labyrinth of countless hidden passageways and the spirit of Marrakech’s Jemaa el-Fnna.
Lucy Folk trades in talismans, it has always been the foundation of her brand. So, when she found herself returning as a nomad to Morocco, a place of contrasts, a place of possibility, a breathtaking spectacle… she wanted to epitomise this feeling in a piece of jewellery steeped in culture.
As the sun started to set over the hazy horizon casting a warm golden hue over the city, a snake charmer took position in the beating heart of Marrakech - Jemaa el-Fnna, ready to perform an ancient skill that has been passed on from generation to generation.
A man sat cross legged on the dusty ground, the melodious sound of the pungi playing Moroccan notes filled the air as he swayed back and forth drawing the snake out of its resting state, entranced by the music. As the snake moved, it slithered its undulating body in a sinuous motion, and the tessellation of the snake’s scales caught glimmers of light.
Captivated by the rhythmic movement of the street performers, the gliding of the snakes wove their way into Lucy’s imagination, becoming the impetus for the now iconic – Medina Ring.
The genesis of the Medina Ring lay in Lucy’s desire to craft a piece that not only paid homage to the spirit of the medina but also spoke to its hidden treasures. The ring was envisioned as a wearable map, a portal to secret passages filled with wonders and riches, mirroring the city's mystique.
Crafted with meticulous attention to detail, the Medina Ring consists of countless tiny links of 9ct gold. Each link is results in a flexible structure that mimics the fluid movement of a snake. When worn, the ring comes alive, wrapping itself around the finger like a serpentine companion, creating an intimate bond between the piece and its wearer.
The hidden links and passages in the Medina Ring symbolise the uncharted paths that one may encounter while exploring the medina. Lucy Folk envisioned her creation as a talisman for modern-day adventurers, igniting a sense of curiosity to explore new horizons.
