Amidst the kitchen’s warmth, a tale is told of a humble dough. A symphony of flour, water, yeast, and salt transformed into a sculpted masterpiece both strong and refined. A golden cuff, forever enshrined.
In 2014, born out of the back of Lucy Folk’s first store and hidden in the laneways of Melbourne’s foodie neighbourhood… a story of creativity and collaboration unfolded. Finding inspiration in the most unexpected places and inspired by her love of casting culinary works into wearable art, Lucy embarked on her latest project, a new collection to be known as “Pizza”.
Lucy sought to merge the two worlds of food and jewellery in a completely new way. She approached Karen Martini, one of her favourite female chefs, to embark on this experimental journey. With Karen's expertise and guidance, Lucy learned the art of rolling dough, a skill that would soon become the foundation of this collection.
With dough in hand, Lucy and Karen fashioned cuffs and rings, that were perfectly imperfect. They called upon their good friend and local restauranteur Carlo Grossi, who graciously offered his fiery oven in his nearby restaurant Ombra Salumi Bar, to awaken the dough, to breathe and expand.
Placing their creations into the oven, they slowly morphed from pallid to golden, cooking a new collection into existence. The jewellery emerged bearing the imprints of their doughy origins with every bubbled air pocket, curve, and ridge to be celebrated in a textural transformation which would soon be cast into precious metal.
Today, what remains of this original collection is one simple, yet iconic piece The Dough Cuff in Yellow Gold
With its golden gleam, the Dough Cuff encapsulates a journey from humble beginnings to extrordinary finishes. Wearing the Dough Cuff is akin to carrying a piece of Melbourne's cultural tapestry on your wrist. Symbolising the beauty of unbridled creativity and the courage to experiment. This signature piece serves as a reminder that inspiration can be found in the most unassuming places.
As the dough lives to be a vessel for taste, let this piece be a foundation in your personal collection to bring forth flavours yet to be seen.
